Understand before building
Time spent establishing how a system is actually used is rarely wasted; assumptions discovered late are expensive.
About us
MOON & MOUNTAIN LIMITED provides information technology and digital solutions: software engineering, cloud and infrastructure work, systems integration, data engineering and security support.

We work on systems that organisations depend on: the applications staff use daily, the infrastructure those applications run on, and the data that moves between them. The work is typically a mixture of new development and careful change to something that already exists.
Engagements are kept narrow enough to be finished. We would rather deliver a defined piece of work completely, with documentation and handover, than hold an open-ended position across many parallel initiatives.
Mission
Our purpose is to leave clients with systems they can rely on and change without fear: understandable code, reproducible environments, and data they can trust when making decisions.
Vision
We want the systems we contribute to still to be serviceable years later — by other teams, with other priorities — because they were built to be read, tested and replaced in parts.
Time spent establishing how a system is actually used is rarely wasted; assumptions discovered late are expensive.
Change arrives in pieces that can be examined, tested and reversed individually.
Significant technical choices are recorded with their reasoning and their trade-offs.
Documentation, environment definitions and access transfer are part of the work, not an afterthought.
We favour mature, widely supported technology and standard patterns. New tools are adopted when they solve a problem we actually have, and are introduced in a way that can be reversed. Architecture is kept as simple as the requirements allow, with clear seams between components.
Acceptance criteria are agreed before implementation. Code is reviewed, covered by automated tests where behaviour matters, and released through repeatable pipelines. Defects are fixed at their cause rather than suppressed at the surface.
Access is granted at the minimum level required and reviewed as roles change. Credentials are held in managed stores. Personal data is collected only where it is needed for the system to function, and handling expectations are agreed in writing with the client.
We work alongside internal teams rather than around them. Progress is reported in writing at a regular cadence, blockers are raised early, and questions are asked directly instead of being resolved by assumption. Where a client team will take over the system, we build with their conventions and skills in mind and hand over in stages rather than at a single meeting.
